Having multiple ladder functions within one ladder is ideal for homeowners undertaking spring cleaning or general domestic tasks. Combination ladders, as the name suggests, combine a step ladder, stairway ladder, extending step ladder and extension ladder into a single piece of equipment. Available in various heights these ladders will fulfil most of the functions a homeowner may require, but they do not provide a hop-up or trestle platform for painting or wallpapering. If these tasks are not on the list of domestic jobs, then a combination ladder is a great option as a piece of access equipment that does not take up too much space when stored but which will offer a variety of access methods for any job around the home. The extending step ladder function is ideal for external jobs where you want a bit more stability than you get from a straight extension ladder, and the stairway function comes into its own when used across any surfaces of differing heights, low walls and levels in a garden being a good example of this. Multi-purpose ladders are also incredibly versatile, with up to ten different positions possible from the most expensive models. These ladders perform as a platform (although not all are supplied with the platform), a straight ladder, straight ladder with stand-off, step ladder and stairway ladder of differing heights. They are formed of at least four sections which are hinged together, and then lock into place for each position they can be put in. This Titan Telescopic Multi Purpose ladder is the most adaptable model, as the telescopic legs mean that even the work platform setting can be adjusted in height, plus it comes with the platform to go on top. At £159 it is the dearest model, but certainly the most useable and therefore worth the investment. On top of all the great features it also stores at a height of less than one metre and weighs just over 14 kilos, so it really doesn't take up much space in the home at all and is light enough for everyone to carry. Little Giant ladders are the most versatile ladders in the world. They are manufactured for domestic and trade use, having proved so popular with homeowners that trade and industrial class versions were also developed. While a multi-purpose ladder may perform in ten or so different positions, the Little Giant range has at least 24 different positions, including all the ones listed above but with the advantage of being useable as a trestle (when used with the optional work platform) and a 90-degree step ladder allowing you to get right up against the wall without the ladder leaning on it and with the added stability of a step ladder. At £155 for the 3-rung Classic, these ladders are not cheap, but as they come with a lifetime warranty and can be used for every purpose imaginable they are a great investment, you will never need to buy another ladder again. The Classic is available in 3, 4, 5 or 6 rung models, and there is a wide range of accessories that can be used with it, including a paint tray, leg leveller, rung platform for a more comfortable standing experience and extra wheels to make moving the ladder as easy as you like. There are also fibreglass models available, should you need to undertake any electrical work. There is a good choice of versatile ladders to suit any pocket out there, so do consider a flexible ladder when you are looking for a decent set of domestic ladders, or even one for a workplace.
