Surveyors use ladders to inspect buildings of varying sizes and they need to be easy to An infographic of brick buildings of different sizes.transport in a car.  Telescopic ladders are useful for surveyors as they require very little space for transportation and storage, but they do not offer much in the way of height: the tallest model is 3.8 metres long, and this is not enough for many surveying jobs.  Of course, inspecting old or single storey buildings with a telescopic ladder would be achievable, but for anything else a longer ladder is needed.

Telescopic ladders do not have the rigidity required for tall heights, due to the nature of the construction, so to make a portable ladder that can work at heights up to five metres the construction needs to be solid.  By building these surveyors ladders in sections the rigidity is improved and taller heights are possible.  The sections are slightly bigger than the closed length of the telescopic ladders on the market (1.02 metres per section) and they do take up a little more room, but with the added bonus of being able to reach over five metres.

Introducing the Sectional Ladder

The sectional ladder is a straight ladder, so it can be used to do all the tasks that a normal straight ladder can do, but without the need for ladder-sized storage space.  Because of the sectional nature of these ladders you can create a ladder that is the perfect size for any job, meaning you only need the one ladder.  If you invest in the six section model you can create a ladder 2.74 metres long, one 3.68 metres long, one 4.6 metres long and one 5.5 metres long.  This makes it adaptable for lots of outdoor maintenance tasks, including reaching the roof and having the ability to make a safe transition onto the roof surface.  It can also be long enough to reach a chimney top on an end wall.

A 3 section sectional ladder.Any tasks such as clearing guttering, cleaning windows and repainting frames can be done with the sectional ladder, as well as seasonal tasks such as decorating the house for Christmas or special events.  If you have a smaller home, such as a bungalow or static caravan then the three or four section models will give you enough height to reach all areas of your dwelling without taking up lots of space inside.  These ladders are small enough to fit under beds and couches or next to the washing machine or boiler.

The tallest model has six sections and costs £192 including VAT and delivery.  With a model like this you can use as many sections as you need to for the job, so it would be the best choice for professional surveyors, functioning as the tall, 5.5 metre model as well as all the shorter ones.  If you only need 4.6 metres of height then the five-section model is the one for you, and will set you back £165.  The four-section model, with a height of 3.68 metres, will cost you £137 and the cheapest option is the three-section model, at £110.  Price will always be a factor in deciding which version of anything to buy, but in this case if you have the space it would be best to get the tallest model you can afford.  That way, you always have a longer ladder if needed, plus the shorter ones you can get from taking a section out.
