…So we left your parcel on the roof! #Where’s my Ladder! This is almost the exact wording of the Hermes courier card left by one delivery driver after the recipient of one parcel was not home. Benjamin Ward, 34, of Hove had ordered some clothes for his son and was not in when they were delivered. The courier may have been trying to throw the parcel over the house to avoid leaving it on the street, or helping Mr Ward avoid the inconvenience of going to the depot, but his throw was not up to scratch and the package ended up stuck on the roof.
Mr Ward tweeted the delivery firm, “Thanks @myhermes for delivering my parcel so it’s 20ft high stuck to the roof! Great care taken!â€, a tweet which was picked up and retweeted over 3,000 times. Hermes saw the tweet and responded, apologising for the mishap and informing Ward that they were looking into it. They tweeted him again offering to send the courier back, this time armed with a ladder with which to retrieve the parcel.
Ward did get his parcel back from the roof, saying of the situation, “they sent him back to get it down with a ladder and say sorry. It was super awkward. It was more funny than anything else, so I don’t really want to make a big deal of it.â€
Next time you’re expecting a parcel to be delivered, it might be wise to stay in and take delivery in person, (or at the very least, leave instructions on where to deliver the package) or you too could return home to a card informing you that your parcel is “stuck on roof, sorry!â€.
