We’ve looked at ladders in love songs on this blog in the past and touched on the subject of Romeo and Juliet and what might have been had they had a ladder! But real life imitates art sometimes, which brings us this story from Derbyshire in the UK.
On a Monday evening in mid-July, a couple in their twenties were getting amorous, but could not get into the boyfriend’s house without waking up his mother and having to face the consequences: something they did not want to do. The couple spied a ladder attached to the roof of a vehicle parked in the street and so, with a plan to use it to climb in through the boyfriend’s window, one of the couple started trying to loosen the ladder from the van. Alas, the couple were seen and the police were called – they were taken to court, “luckily” not receiving a custodial sentence but a community service order.
Now we have all been young and in the throes of romance, wanting to keep it from ‘the grown-ups’ and live in the little bubble of a new relationship, but this is certainly one of the first real life cases I have seen of a couple stealing a ladder together, to break into the boyfriend’s home in order to sneak past his mother. Well, they do say love makes people do funny things, and I think this proves it!
So, if you know there are young couples around your area, desperate for some alone time together, it is especially important that you keep your ladders locked away safely! In this case, residents on the street saw the couple and acted, phoning the police for back up, but this might not always happen. Invest in a locking ladder rack for your vehicle if you keep ladders on the roof of it, or better yet, keep your ladders locked indoors in a garage or utility room.
Now if you are young and do not wish to get into trouble whilst avoiding the mother in law, plan your amorous liaisons in advance and be prepared to sneak in through the window with one of our many ladders available her at the midland ladder store!
