In one of our recent posts we talked about the idiot on a ladder competition. If entries were accepted from outside of the UK, this latest video would be sure to take home first prize.
The video which was recently published online shows that some tradespeople will go to literally any length in order to get the job done. In a nutshell, the video shows a workman fixing an air con unit whilst balancing on two rather long ladders that have been stacked on top of each other.
And, as if that is not scary enough, the man can be seen swaying in the wind. The video is thought to have been taken in India and starts by simply showing a workman standing on top of a ladder fixing an air con unit positioned at the side of a building. The video then drops down and shows the scary make shift ladder and reveals the height of the operation. The ladder has been described as the tallest make shift ladder in the world and the workman was not even wearing a hardhat to protect himself.
In fact, the height and length of the ladder shown in the video has caused peoples stomachs to churn across the globe and has been shared by nearly every national newspaper and on social media.
We don’t believe the man involved was hurt in the process, but he could have very easily died or sustained very serious injuries whilst carrying out this task. Whilst balancing on the ladder which was placed against the side of the building, the man is also shown to be using a drill to unscrew the air conditioning unit from the wall. Somehow the cord has managed to travel down the entire length of the building, making it possibly one of the longest cables also known to man. Something tells us the cord may be a little bit make shift too.
However, slightly more reassuring, the man armed with the drill did have a little support from a friend or work colleague, another man was seen at the very top of the building. This man appeared to tie a piece of rope to the highest rung of the ladder in order to help keep it steady.
However there was no man at the bottom of the ladder.
Despite the man’s efforts, the ladder can still be seen swinging. It moves backwards and then forwards again and at times it is completely away from the wall. How the workman was not hurt, we are not entirely sure and quite frankly we are very surprised, but he looked very calm working on the air conditioning unit at this height despite the huge risk and potential of an accident happening. In fact, he was so calm we do not believe it was his first time using a make shift ladder at this sort of height.
It is unclear on the video how the workmen secured both ladders in place. But, we urge people not to do anything like this at home. Ladders result in a number of deaths every year so proper health and safety procedures must be followed.
Many people have reacted to the lack of health and safety and others have questioned how this was physically possible. One thing is for sure though, I don’t think many people would want to be in this man’s position. Very scary stuff.
