Loft ladders are an essential part of any home. While it is not unheard of for people to use a tall stepladder to reach the loft hatch, the purpose built loft ladder is definitely a better and much safer choice. Loft ladders can be bought as part of a fitting deal through companies who offer loft conversions and/or loft ladder fitting. Often, these companies are run by carpenters and joiners who know a lot about roof building, ladders and joists. It is also easy to buy a loft ladder separately and either fit it with a DIY approach, or hire a carpenter/joiner to fit it for you. Depending on the model you are looking for, you may find that it is cheaper to buy a loft ladder from a distributor and pay for fitting separately, or look for deals offered by fitting companies who may have a special relationship with loft ladder manufacturers.
Concertina Ladders or Spiral Staircases?
For a loft conversion, a loft ladder certainly lakes up less space than a space saving staircase, but depending on the frequency with which the space is used and the mobility of the people using it, a space saving staircase might be an option to consider, instead of a loft ladder. There are concertina style loft ladders that take up very little space in the attic and loft ladders which fit onto the loft hatch, meaning no floor space is taken up, but the disadvantage is that using a loft ladder frequently to access a space might become hard over time, whereas a space saving staircase is easier to climb, especially if items are being carried up and down from the loft. Midland Ladders has a wide range of loft ladders in concertina, sliding and telescopic styles, as well as a choice of wooden and aluminium loft ladders. We also stock a selection of beautiful Italian-made spiral stairs – if you have any questions as to what may be the best fit for your needs, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
