A step ladder is your best friend around the home.  A short one is useful for reaching on A smiling woman hangs a picture on a white wall.top of cupboards and high shelves, and a tall one is the best for hanging wallpaper, painting or putting up shelves or picture hooks.  Not many step ladders can be both short and tall at the same time, so you might think about buying two that will fulfil all your height needs.  Domestic rated step ladders are not expensive, and if you already have, say, a tall step ladder then you only need to buy a shorter one if you have the need for it.  If you don't have any step ladders, or need to replace the ones you already have, then the Little Giant Select Step or Little Giant Classic is a good bet.  With the Select Step achieving platform heights of between 80cm and 1.6 metres and the Classic available in three to six rung models these ladders can be put to use in almost any situation around the home, from cleaning the kitchen cupboards to completely revamping a room. Because the Little Giant ladders can be configured into 24 different positions they can be used to tackle any interior decoration job.  Painting stairwells and the ceilings above is a doddle when the Select Step is positioned in stair mode, and with the optional workplank and the Classic model, a temporary scaffold can be set up to enable you to reach the ceiling above the stairs, or just to provide a larger working area that means not having to move the ladder so often. When used as a 90 degree ladder the Select Step or the Classic give great access to walls for easier painting.  Conventional step ladders cannot be adjusted to sit so close to the wall, therefore making wall painting more difficult as you have to lean further forward to reach the painting surface.  The 90 degree set up eliminates a lot of the reaching, also eliminating some of the risks of leaning too far on a ladder.  With the optional extras such A woman stands on a Little Giant Select step to dust a chandelier in an ornate entrance hall.as paint-pot and tool tray this ladder becomes a fully-functioning painting and decorating system, and it means you don't have to hang on to the paint pot, or keep going up and down the ladder to reload the brush or roller. The optional work plank for the Classic transforms the ladder into a temporary platform, meaning you can reach more of the walls and several different heights without having to come back down very often.  As the work plank can be extended to nine feet in length you can reach this much of the wall surface without having to move anything at all, which is a great help when hanging patterned wallpaper that needs to be carefully matched on the joins.  Wide rolls of wallpaper can be hard to hang using just a ladder as the ladder itself can get in the way and cause the paper to stick to itself and anything else that happens to be in the way.  The other issue with wider paper rolls is that the reach needed to successfully adhere it to the wall at the top can be difficult to achieve when the step ladder is in the way, so by using the work platform set up you give yourself a lot more room for manoeuvre. When it comes down to choosing between these two ladders, really the only thing to consider is whether you need the work plank option or not.  The Select Step has a built in platform at the top, but it is one that you would expect to find on any platform step ladder.  The Classic does not have a built in platform, but can be configured for use as a work platform, where the Select Step cannot.  Both ladders offer amazing versatility in the home, and for most homeowners, the Select Step would be the perfect choice.  Those with more regular or intensive DIY projects may benefit more from having the option of a work plank.  If you're still unsure, give one of our team a call on 01527 821 651 to discuss your requirements.
