Tripod ladders are the standard design for use in orchards; sometimes known as fruit picking or orchard ladders they use three legs for added stability on soft ground (it being easier to attain balance with three legs than four) and are tapered at the top to allow access into even the tightest crowns.  With a wide flared base these are incredibly stable ladders and have been used for decades in commercial and domestic orchards alike.   The world's tallest tripod ladder, as certified by The Guinness Book of Records, stood in a cherry orchard in Summerland, California.  Commissioned by Dwayne Dickinson in 1997, it was measured in 2000 and stood over 30 feet high (9.19 metres).  This incredible ladder wasn't built to be used for real at the Dickinson family P.Y.O. fruit farm, but was inte..

With winter upon us many women are reverting to wearing tights with their favourite skirts or dresses, but with tights come the old problem of ladders.  Tights ladder when they get caught on something like a rough table leg, a zip or even a chipped nail and unfortunately, many pairs of tights never make it past one day of wearing, ultimately ending up in landfill. This is an environmental concern because tights tend to be made from nylon and other materials derived from petrochemicals.  They won't degrade in a landfill for thousands of years, meaning that many pairs of tights are effectively a single-use plastic.  Now, hosiery brand Hēdoïne has created tights which won't ladder, but which will also decompose within 5 years after being thrown away.  Not all the materials used in the tights..

Avid readers and book collectors will be familiar with the challenges of accessing books on the top shelf, perhaps leaving these ones empty or using them for books that are rarely needed.  Not using these shelves can make it hard to keep a proper library system working, and it is a real waste of space, so some people invest in a step ladder or a kik-stool (which are used in public libraries) to reach these high shelves.  A step ladder is a good idea, as it can be used for many other jobs around the home and it can be stored out of the way at the side of a bookshelf when not in use. Great as a step ladder is, it won't stop the daydreaming about a fully bespoke library room with built in shelves and a ladder on railings that can be pulled around the room and climbed to access even the h..

On this blog, we are no strangers to tales of stupidity, bravery and some uses of ladders that totally defy expectations, and here are a few more stories that are no exception.  We just wish The Ladder Association were still taking nominations for their ladder losers and ladder winner competition, but perhaps these could be eligible to get an honourable mention in this year's contest.  Our first tale of amazing ladder use comes from Pakistan, where a toddler was filmed making his way down a ladder that would make most people think twice about even using it.  He can't be more than three years old, but already he is skilled at descending from the ladder which features rungs spaced so far apart, and unevenly, that even experienced ladder users would have to pay close attention. Starting..

When it comes to picking the right ladder there are several factors at play, something that makes it very hard to buy a ladder for someone else, as you can never really be sure of what will be best for another person. Thinking about the purpose of the ladder is a good starting point; is it for accessing high shelves and changing lightbulbs indoors?  Are there external property or gardening jobs that require a ladder?  What sort of ground surface will the ladder be used on most often?  Are there multiple reasons the ladder is needed? Step ladders are an ideal solution for small jobs around the home, whereas a tripod ladder would be better for outside jobs and working in gardens, at height.  A multipurpose ladder will suit most domestic jobs, but might not give the range of heights needed fo..

Once again, as the weather warms up and we start putting our winter clothes away (perhaps optimistically!) and we find all sorts of items stored away in our homes gathering dust and so we start the traditional Spring Clean.  We all try to de-clutter our homes and make them neat and tidy, whilst also taking the opportunity to deep clean those now-empty cupboards and shelves, perhaps even giving a lick of paint to a tired room.  Most of these jobs require a ladder of some sort, and depending on the scale of your sort out and redecoration, you may even need two or more different types of ladder.  We take a look at the most versatile domestic ladders for spring cleaning, DIY and decorating that are able to perform virtually any function and not take up too much of that valuable storage spac..

Many people love horse riding, but it can be hard to do if you have limited mobility or are disabled, due to the height of the animals.  In the past, step ladders have been used to help people mount their rides, but the danger is that the horse could kick the ladder over and become entangled, causing the horse and rider to fall with potentially catastrophic consequences.  If there is another person present to manage the ladder this is a possible option, but it does not foster a spirit of independence for a disabled rider.  Single steps (like kik-steps and hop ups) are also used to help children mount a horse, but the same issues are present with this method, and it may be daunting for inexperienced riders to suddenly find themselves very high up. One man in America has designed an eq..

Ladders are hugely useful to us on a daily basis and they are more present in our lives than we may notice. After all, they are absolutely everywhere and they contribute to large parts of our lives, making this easier for us and those around us. While popular in the professional world among people like painters and decorators, they also have quite a few uses for those who own small businesses. If you have a business that attends trade shows, then you might want to think about how a ladder could benefit you and the time it takes you to set up and pack things away. This article plans to take you through just that, making things a little easier for you during events. Ladders to Use You often find that the show organisers will have a few ladders available for use, as and when they are n..

It is no secret that ladders are one of the most widely used tools in the world.  After all, without them there are a huge range of tasks that we would not be able to undertake.  Practically every profession has or uses a ladder at some point, and the retail world is no exception.  We rely on them to help us with a huge number of tasks, and if you work in retail this is something you will know all too well.  This article will take you through some of the great uses ladders have in retail, as well as the types that are most commonly used. Most Commonly Used Ladders in Retail The most frequently used ladders in the retail world are the standard ladder and the step ladder. These two serve great purposes within the walls of any store, although you will find them out back, rather than on..

Games night with family or friends is one that is often looked forward to. It’s a fantastic opportunity to spend some quality time together socialising and sharing delicious snacks. Even if you go on holiday or camping games can be an essential part of the experience. In fact, there are a few ladder games that you can play as well. Board games such as Snakes and Ladders may be the first to come to mind, but there is actually a more physical one that is built on trust available. It’s called the Human Ladder and it is great fun for all the family. Where Can I Get It? The Human Ladder is available in many toy and games stores across the world. It is also available from online retailers and shopping sites. However, if you struggle to find a copy for yourself, the game is incredibly easy ..
