Tripod ladders are commonly found in orchards and other fruit growing establishments as the stability afforded by three legs is well suited to the soft ground as well as the need to get close to the centre of the tree. However, this type of tripod ladder only has one stabilising pole, which comes out from the rung section and allows the ladder to lean into the tree. The new telescopic tripod ladder from Faxko has two extra legs, so there are in fact, four points of contact with the ground. This extra ground contact and the elimination of movement makes this one of the most stable ladders available, almost as stable as a scaffold platform!
The ladder works as two ladders: the top section can be used as a standalone, non-adjustable step-ladder (albeit a more stable version, as the twin legs help keep this ladder as still as possible), ideal for low-level jobs around the home such as changing lightbulbs, cleaning high shelves and windows. An extendable handrail at the top of the ladder gives you even more working height, and also features a safety strap that clips on, allowing hands free working and virtually eliminating the risk of falling from this ladder.
A Ladder for All Ceilings
The system is available in two heights, fourteen and sixteen feet (extended length), which is perfect for every homeowner. In fact, the top section alone is tall enough for older homes with high ceilings, and the fully extended version is perfect for country piles with very high ceilings in hallways and ballrooms (although not many of us are lucky enough to live in such impressive properties).
Used on it’s own, the bottom section of the fourteen foot model weighs just twelve kilos, and with the extension weighs twenty. The maximum reach, based on a user of 5’6†is over sixteen feet, and packs down to just 7’7â€. The sixteen foot model weighs thirteen kilos, twenty-two with the extension, and gives a maximum reach of 18’7â€. When not in use, the sixteen foot model stores away at 8’7â€. The fourteen foot model costs £345 with VAT and free delivery, while the sixteen foot model will set you back £375. Both have a maximum load rating of 150 kilos.
The best thing about this ladder though, is the versatility around the home. It can be used inside and out, and because of the incredible stability afforded by the wide footprint and tripod design, can be safely used by one person (although ladder safety rules dictate that there should always be one person on the ground). Braces between the legs of the top section give extra confidence in the security of the ladder when it is fully open.
When used outdoors, and often on uneven ground, the telescopic stabilising legs allow you to adjust the position and level of the ladder according to the topography of the ground surface. The telescopic extension legs are independently adjustable in three-inch increments so the ladder can be used on slopes and steps. The wide legs and high placement of the stabilising braces also means that this ladder can be positioned over walls, adding to the versatility of this ladder. There are not many situations in which this ladder could not cope. Even outdoor garden features with multiple levels and steps are no problem for this ladder system.
Telescopic Ladder Safety
The Faxko tripod ladder can take some adjusting in order to cope with all heights and surfaces, as each extension leg plus the rung section needs to be adjusted one section at a time, but when this is complete, the ladder is much safer and more versatile than other systems. Because the telescopic back legs can be adjusted so well, this ladder can be used right up against a wall and is much safer than an extension ladder placed at the same angle. This telescopic ladder, therefore, is more user friendly for the homeowner or the novice DIYer, as it is virtually impossible to place this ladder at an unsafe angle; the telescopic legs do all the maths for you!
The Faxko telescopic tripod ladder is designed for homeowners and can replace multiple ladders, as it can be used as a gardening ladder, a low level step ladder, high level step ladder, and in place of an extension ladder. Since it can be used on stairs, it can also be used to paint above staircases, and comes with safety features (like the extendable handrail and safety belt) that give the inexperienced ladder user extra confidence when working at height.
